On December 14, officials from the Ministry of Electric Power and others commissioned a new 5 MVA transformer in Wokha.

WOKHA, December 14 (MExN): The Ministry of Electricity of Nagaland commissioned a 5 MVA transformer in Wokha on December 14. A DIPR report stated that this will double the capacity of power transformers.

Er Chonrothung Ezung, executive engineer of Wokha's electrical department, said that power demand/consumption has increased dramatically in the past 15 years, but on the other hand, the capacity of power transformers has not been upgraded or increased.

He informed that Wokha's existing 5 MVA power transformer was completely overloaded and could malfunction at any time. The existing 33/11 K 5MVA power transformer was installed in Power House Wokha in 2005. In view of this, the Wokha Power Department has notified the Chief Engineer (D&R) of Nagaland to allocate an additional 5 MVA power transformer. The department allocated the same amount on November 9.

Ezung expressed optimism that Wokha will have enough power supply for at least ten to twenty years.

On behalf of the citizens of Woka District, he also thanked the state government and the Ministry of Electricity for their timely intervention, which will greatly benefit the well-being of the district. Ezung also expressed his gratitude to the subordinate staff for completing the installation process within three weeks and gave it as a gift to the citizens of Wokha District.

The transformer was commissioned under the witness of Chairman Lotha Hoho, Mhondamo Ovung and Rev Abemo Jungio, who were responsible for the installation.

Lotha Hoho Chairman Mhondamo Ovung attended the event as a special invitee and thanked the state government and the Ministry of Electricity on behalf of Lotha Hoho and the Lotha community. He also thanked Er Chonronthung Ezung for his efforts to solve the problem of abnormal power supply in the area.

A press release from Lotha Hoho stated that the town with its only 5 MVA transformer has been in trouble due to frequent power outages.

"Many chief engineers and department engineers of the Ministry of Electric Power came and went, they were asked and knew the problem. But they ended their tenure without meeting the needs of the people of Woka Town. Only this time, chief engineer Moatemsu Aier and the district engineer Chonrothug Ezung took the initiative to meet the needs of the people in Wokha Town. Therefore, the electricity consumers in Wokha Town thank the department, especially the two engineers," it said.

Lotha Hoho also asked other departments to follow suit and provide the needs of the people in the town in terms of sanitation, water supply, roads, and education. administration, with sincere commitment to their people by the elected leaders," it added.
